Safe Drinking Water Project
In remote Himalayan communities of Nepal, villagers spend hours every day walking to collect water for their families and animals. Most of them are women and children, which also has the effect of keeping children out of school.
Nepal Earthquake
The two major earthquakes of 7.9 and 7.3 in Nepal on April 29 and May 12, 2015, destroyed or damaged 1,045 classrooms in The Small World working communities in the lower Solukhumbu District. Right after these earthquakes, The Small World initiated immediate relief work to provide tarpaulins for shelters, drinking water, food, and medical support, and built 20 temporary learning centers in the district while coordinating with the District Education office of Nepal to keep the children in school.
Earthquake Relief and Response
The Small World began building permanent, earthquake resistant schools to replace those destroyed and damaged by the two major earthquakes that hit Nepal on 25th April and 12th May, 2015. They have left an ugly mark by killing over 10,000 people, injuring more than 20,000 people, and damaging almost all schools, houses and infrastructure in many rural districts of Nepal, including the Solukhumbu district in the Everest region.
