Pikey-Dudh Kunda Trek in Nepal: A Unique Himalayan Adventure

The Pikey-Dudh Kunda trek in Nepal’s Solu-Khumbu region is a hidden gem for trekking enthusiasts seeking stunning Himalayan views, rich Sherpa culture, and spiritual experiences. This trek offers spectacular panoramic views of the Everest massif and the lesser-known but majestic Numbur Himal.

The journey includes climbing Pikey Peak, famous for its breathtaking 360-degree vistas of the Himalayas. Afterward, trekkers visit the sacred Dudh Kunda Lake, located at the base of Numbur Himal, a place revered for its spiritual significance and believed to grant wishes.

Unlike popular Everest Base Camp treks, the Pikey-Dudh Kunda trail is less crowded, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in authentic Sherpa culture and explore ancient Buddhist monasteries. Along the route, travelers can also experience the impactful work of The Small World project, which supports local communities. Visitors can participate in volunteer programs, stay in traditional homestays, and even spend a night in a monastery.

Adventure Elements

 
  • Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Dhap (Approx. 9 hours)

    • Long drive through scenic routes, acclimatizing for trek ahead

    • Overnight stay in Dhap

    Day 2: Trek from Dhap to Jhapre or Thole Demba (Approx. 5 hours)

    • Start trekking through lush forests and local villages

    • Overnight stay at Jhapre or Thole Demba tea house

    Day 3: Trek from Jhapre or Thole Demba to Pikey Peak Base Camp (Approx. 6 hours)

    • Steady ascent toward base camp

    • Experience stunning Himalayan landscapes

    • Overnight at Pikey Peak Base Camp

    Day 4: Trek to Pikey Peak Summit (4,065 m) and descend to Jase Bhanjyang (Approx. 7 hours total)

    • Early morning summit hike for panoramic views of Everest, Kanchenjunga, and Makalu

    • Descend to Jase Bhanjyang for overnight stay

    Day 5: Trek from Jase Bhanjyang to Junbesi (Approx. 5 hours)

    • Trek through Sherpa villages and traditional monasteries

    • Overnight stay in Junbesi

    Day 6: Rest day in Junbesi or optional trek to Dhud Kunda

    • Take a rest or explore nearby trails

    • Overnight stay in Junbesi

    Day 7: Trek to Shengeephuk or nearest tea house (Approx. altitude 3,940 m)

    • Continue ascending toward higher altitude

    • Overnight at tea house

    Day 8: Trek to Saharsbeni and overnight at tea house

    • Scenic trek with beautiful Himalayan views

    • Overnight stay at tea house in Saharsbeni

    Day 9: Trek to Dudh Kunda and overnight at Kamo Danda tea house

    • Trek to serene alpine lake Dudh Kunda

    • Overnight at Kamo Danda tea house

    Day 10: Trek to Taksindu Danda and overnight at tea house

    • Continue trekking through beautiful landscapes

    • Overnight at tea house in Taksindu Danda

    Day 11: Drive or fly back to Kathmandu from Phaplu

    • Return journey to Kathmandu by road or air

    • End of trek

    Is this trip right for you?

    Trekking in remote areas, although beautiful, can be strenuous. Please ensure that you have asuitable level of fitness. Moderate grade trekking.

    Homestays in remote regions is an experience you will never forget; however, there are limited facilities. Outdoor toilets and going without a shower, is all part of the experience.

    You will interact with the Dalit community and their traditions. This is a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in the local way of life- so keep an open mind and be respectful of cultural differences.

    The going can be slow over long distances. Our jeep ride back to Kathmandu will be bumpy but a little bit of patience will go a long way towards enjoying the beautiful landscape. • Porters will carry your luggage but you will be responsible for carrying your own camera gear and laptop.
