The Small World is a trusted Nepal charity transforming the lives of children, women, and families across remote regions.

Every year offers a moment to pause and measure the distance between where we began and what we’ve managed to build. For The Small World, this past year has been defined by tangible, grounded progress that has reshaped the daily lives of children, women, and families across Nepal. What once stood as urgent need has, in many places, become opportunity, safety, and renewed dignity.

Across remote villages and busy city corridors, more children now wake to the simple security of shelter and care. More families have access to pathways toward stable livelihoods. More girls walk through Kathmandu’s crowded lanes with confidence. They are supported, protected, and empowered to imagine futures that were once out of reach.

These are not abstract ideals; they are the lived outcomes of programs that have taken root and grown stronger each day.

These stories, quiet victories and transformative milestones alike, are the true measure of The Small World’s work. They remind us that meaningful change is built steadily, intentionally, and with unwavering commitment to the communities we serve.

Safeguarding the Everest Region’s Most Vulnerable Children

Impact Highlights

  • First-of-its-kind children’s home in the Everest region

  • 82 orphaned and vulnerable children living safely at Arhaus

  • 300 children supported annually with education access

Expanding Education Through the Arhaus Children’s Home

In Nepal’s Everest region, years of crisis have placed children’s access to formal education at severe risk. At The Small World, we have made it our mission to reverse that trajectory. Each year, we support 300 children in local communities with tuition assistance, school supplies, and mentorship, ensuring that they remain in school, stay connected to their families, and have the chance to grow and thrive within their own communities.

At the center of this commitment is our Arhaus Children’s Home in Solukhumbu.

As the first home of its kind in the region, Arhaus provides a safe, nurturing community for orphaned, abandoned, and highly vulnerable children who are at risk of trafficking, forced labor, and other serious harms. Here, children find stability, healing, and quality education, turning what was once a distant dream into a daily, lived reality.

Following the 2015 earthquake and the COVID-19 pandemic, families already living on the margins, like trekking porters, single mothers, and daily wage laborers, lost their primary sources of income. With limited safety nets, many struggled to keep their children healthy, safe, and enrolled in school. These back-to-back crises deepened existing vulnerabilities and pushed countless children closer to exploitation.

Through the Arhaus Children’s Home, we have created a community-centered model that strengthens educational access while grounding children in their own culture, language, and identity. We ensure that while they receive new skills and opportunities, they remain deeply connected to the communities they will one day help lead.

Beyond the Home, we also build and operate our own schools in remote Himalayan regions, providing free, high-quality education to children across the Everest area. Looking forward, we plan to expand Arhaus into a combined home-and-school campus, giving children access to comprehensive learning in a setting that upholds their cultural identity and strengthens community resilience.

At the same time, we also provide 82 orphaned and vulnerable children at Arhaus with stability, dignity, and a foundation for their future. Arhaus is a safe, structured community where children who have faced abandonment, exploitation, or severe hardship can rebuild their lives. Here, they receive secure shelter, consistent access to education, nutritious meals, emotional support, and compassionate daily care.

More importantly, they grow in an environment that values their potential and protects their wellbeing. Each child at Arhaus is not only safeguarded from immediate risks but is also given the tools, confidence, and opportunities to pursue a brighter, self-determined future.

Breaking Barriers: Empowering Girls Through Higher Education in Solukhumbu

Breaking Barriers Impact Highlights

  • 50 girls supported each year through the Solukhumbu Girls’ Dorm

  • 85 young women currently pursuing higher education and professional degrees

  • 500+ girls have graduated and become role models in their families and communities—now working as teachers, nurses, business women, and community leaders

Similarly, at The Small World, we are equally committed to transforming the futures of girls in Nepal’s remote Everest region, where deeply rooted cultural norms and geographic isolation often force young women to leave school after Grade 10. The Small World is a trusted Nepal charity that safeguards children and empowers women.

Through the Solukhumbu Girls’ Dorm, we provide 50 girls with safe, family-style living, access to higher education, and holistic support, from tuition and uniforms to books, computer education, and life skills, all designed to help them thrive academically and personally.

Beyond the dorm, 85 girls are pursuing professional degrees in Kathmandu, studying medicine, law, business, education, dentistry, chartered accountancy, and other fields, becoming the first role models in their communities.

Our programs also integrate leadership training, awareness on human trafficking, agricultural education, and community engagement, ensuring these girls not only achieve their own dreams but return to inspire and uplift future generations.

By equipping young women with education, confidence, and skills, The Small World is breaking cycles of poverty, fostering equality, and creating empowered leaders who will drive lasting change in their communities.

The Small World lets you volunteer in Nepal, helping children gain education and confidence. When you donate to Nepal with The Small World, you directly impact families’ lives and livelihoods.

Strengthening Food Security and Empowering Women

In like manner, at The Small World, we recognize that sustainable food systems are essential to resilient communities, particularly in Nepal’s remote Himalayan villages where climate change and the long-term effects of the pandemic have heightened food insecurity.

Through our Seeds of Hope program, 480 women across 16 women’s groups receive seeds, greenhouse support, and hands-on training to grow nutritious crops, generate income, and strengthen long-term livelihoods. Each group is guided by trusted local leaders, fostering collaboration, mutual support, and a safe space for women to share challenges and solutions.

By combining sustainable agricultural practices with community leadership, we empower marginalized farmers and livestock keepers to take control of their food systems, build climate-resilient practices, and improve nutrition.

Through Seeds of Hope, The Small World is not only helping communities feed themselves today but also equipping them with the knowledge, agency, and confidence to face future crises and thrive independently.
